Built on Trust: Mattie’s Certified Sewer Camera Inspection Raises the Bar with General’s JM-1000 X Water Jetter

Craig Mattie

Craig Mattie didn’t come into the sewer inspection business the traditional way. For nearly 30 years, he worked in corporate security, where integrity wasn’t optional; it was the job. Handling sensitive situations and safeguarding valuables taught him one thing above all else: people need someone they can trust.

So when he began noticing questionable practices in sewer and pipe inspections, such as customers being shown misleading footage or told they needed costly repairs that may not have been necessary, he decided to do something about it.

In late 2025, he launched his own company, Mattie’s Certified Sewer Camera Inspection LLC. From day one, Mattie built his company around transparency. He encourages customers to stand beside him during inspections, watching the live video feed as he guides the camera through their pipes. He explains everything in real time, stopping when needed, pointing out exactly what’s there, and just as importantly, what isn’t.

It’s a simple idea, but one that he feels sets him apart in an industry where many customers don’t even know what their drains should look like. To deliver on that promise, Mattie needed equipment he could rely on, tools that wouldn’t slow him down or compromise the quality of his work. He found that in General Pipe Cleaners.

His first purchase was General Pipe Cleaners’ Kinetic Water Ram, followed soon after by the JM-1000 X Mini Jet™, a compact but powerful machine that has quickly become central to his business. What stood out to him wasn’t just performance, but dependability.

The lightweight, compact JM-1000 X Mini-Jet gives users 1500 psi of cleaning power, yet weighs just 23 lbs. It clears grease, sand, and ice from 1-1/2″ to 3″ lines up to 50 feet long. The pump and motor assembly are safely contained in a rugged metal diamond plate case that can handle abuse in the field. The ergonomically balanced, portable unit is easy to carry to and from the job and takes up little space in a contractor’s truck.

“These tools just work,” Mattie says. “I’m not fighting them. I take them to the job, put them where they need to be, and they do what they’re supposed to do.”

That reliability proved critical during one of his most memorable early service calls.

A busy restaurant in Morgantown, West Virginia, was dealing with a persistent drain problem in its kitchen, one that had already been costing the owner in repeat service visits. The previous service provider had been clearing just enough of the blockage to restore temporary flow, leaving grease buildup clinging to the pipe walls and setting the stage for the next clog. By the time Mattie arrived, the restaurant was packed with customers at peak weekend dining time.

Mattie got to work immediately. After opening part of the line, Mattie brought in his new JM-1000 X Mini-Jet, using high-pressure water to thoroughly scour the pipe interior, removing not just the blockage, but the grease lining that had been causing the recurring issue. In just 16 minutes, he cleared more than 100 feet of pipe and got the kitchen back up and running.

“Nobody even knew I was there,” he recalls.

More importantly, the problem stayed solved. Weeks later, there had been no repeat issues, no emergency calls, no costly downtime, no unnecessary expenses. For Mattie, that’s the difference between doing a job and doing it right.

His approach is simple: don’t just create a temporary fix, deliver a lasting solution. And with equipment like the JM-1000 X, he has the capability to do exactly that. As his business continues to grow, Mattie is already looking ahead. He plans to expand his lineup with larger jetters and additional General Pipe Cleaners’ equipment, confident that the same reliability and performance will support him at every stage.

But no matter how much his operation scales, his mission will remain the same. “I built this company to be honest with people,” he says. “If they can see what’s really going on, they can make the right decisions—and that’s what matters most.” Mattie is proving that with the right approach—and the right tools—he can earn customer trust, one job at a time.
